Sudbury Amateur Boxing Club Receives £6,000

Chairman of ABA England, Keith Walters, oversees the ABAE Semi-finals South and Suffolk Council presenting a £6,000 cheque to Sudbury Amateur Boxing Club on 31st March 2012.

Keith Walters with London boxing coaches – 22 March 2012

London ABA boxing coaches attended a boxing in schools course recently held at the Damilola Taylor Centre, Southwark.

The course was to prepare and teach the London boxing coaches how to deliver boxing in schools, youth clubs, colleges and Universities.

Its all part of the London ABA’s Boxing Back in Schools programme 2012 Olympic Legacy.

Chairman ABA of England, Keith Walters, attended to show his support and watch the coaches under instruction from ABA Advanced Coach, Quinton (“Q”) Shillingford.

Keith said,

London ABA want the Boxing Awards programme in every school, college, University and youth club in London, we want every child, teenager and adult to have the opportunity to experience our beloved sport in a fun, recreational environment as well as in our boxing clubs.

The fact that the London Coaches want to move into schools to work in after school clubs and in curriculum time is fantastic.

We are building a list of London ABA coaches that will be recommended by the region to deliver in schools the Boxing Awards programme. “

The London ABA funded the boxing in schools course for the London club coaches from a sports grant delivered by their main sponsors, Powerday and Sport England (match funding).

The London ABA consultant, Paul King, who was on hand on the day to explain to the London coaches the way forward into London schools from completing the Schools boxing course said,

“London’s vision is to build on the recreational boxing awards scheme, by increasing participation and getting more youngsters into boxing clubs.

We are confident the sport will grow and we will see a bigger and stronger London ABA. “

Paul King also thanked Powerday and the Sport England Sports match funding, saying,

“London ABA will be ready to deliver recreational boxing in schools and the outside community in a professional and quality assured manner delivering non contact boxing through the GB Boxing Awards programme. “

The course was well attended, 37 London ABA coaches from all over the city were qualified over two separate run courses.
